» Médecins du Monde is an international humanitarian organisation providing medical care to vulnerable populations affected by war, natural disasters, disease, famine, poverty or exclusion. Originally established in France in 1980, the Médecins du Monde international network now extends to 16 countries in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

BUILT ON VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT

» Médecins du Monde’s work depends on the efforts of nearly 3,000 medical and logistics professionals who volunteer their time. Thanks to their dedication and expertise, we are able to run emergency and development programmes in more than 60 countries while minimising costs.

BEYOND MEDICAL CARE

» Although Médecins du Monde’s primary aim is to provide medical care, our work goes further to ensure long-lasting effectiveness. We draw on our experience on the ground to bear witness to obstacles to healthcare and to advocate for change.

AT HOME AND ABROAD

» Our projects take place in both developing and developed countries. Across the countries where the Médecins du Monde network is present, our medical teams provide healthcare to the most vulnerable groups in their society.

EMERGENCY AND LONG-TERM

» Médecins du Monde works in over 60 countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East with three main types of project.

EMERGENCY RELIEF PROJECTS

» In emergencies, Médecins du Monde provides immediate medical treatment, drugs and other essential health supplies and helps health services to get back to normal.

» In cases of war and conflict MdM treats injuries, both physical and psychological. We also ensure that the population can access primary healthcare, maternity care and essential treatment for chronic diseases, such as diabetes.

POST-EMERGENCY PROJECTS

» Médecins du Monde remains long after the media spotlight has moved on and the world has begun to forget. We help communities rebuild by econstructing clinics and hospitals, providing medical supplies and training local health workers.

LONG-TERM PROJECTS

» As well as responding to emergencies, Médecins du Monde runs development projects that aim to bring lasting solutions to a range of long-term roblems. These range from battling HIV/AIDS to addressing the challenges of providing basic healthcare in areas of extreme poverty.
