The situation for 1.5 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip is worse now than it has ever been since the start of the Israeli military occupation in 1967. The current situation in Gaza is man-made, completely avoidable and, with the necessary political will, can also be reversed.
The European Union now has 27 countries. Some have long been prosperous, whereas others are emerging from decades of poverty and have briskly growing economies.The goal is to create a free-trade zone fostering the wealth of all, but it must include fighting against pockets of poverty and precariousness that are still too common.

Since February 2006, the Occupied Palestinian Territories have suffered the effects of the international economic embargo ordered by the main western donors after Hamas’s victory in the parli amentary elections of 25 January 2006.
Médecins du Monde joined the people returning to their valleys to provide additional medical services. The xisting structures and capacity have been badly hit by the earthquake. With health units destroyed and health taff leaving the valley, a large task is lying ahead for those who continue to be responsible.
