IN FRANCE AND ABROAD, MÉDECINS DU MONDE CARRIES OUT 59 PROGRAMMES IN SOME THIRTY COUNTRIES

We are committed to caring for the most vulnerable populations, bearing witness to barriers to access to healthcare, denouncing infringements of dignity and human rights and achieving sustainable improvements in health policies for all.

IDENTIFYING THE NEEDS

The choice of our programmes is guided by the priority actions of Médecins du Monde. Analysing social context, legal framework and difficulties encountered by vulnerable populations allow us to consider interventions.

EXPLORATORY MISSION

Led by a programme Coordinator and a medical Advisor, the mission lasts for approximately three weeks and is funded by Médecins du Monde’s own funds.

DRAFTING THE PROJECT

Modalities of intervention are defined. They are based on different funding scenarios for different components of the programmes. We choose which institutional partners and civil society organisations we will work with.

SETTING UP THE MISSION

It is the beginning of activities. It lasts 6 to 12 months depending on how difficult it is to be registered with local authorities. The programme Coordination Team settle in the country of intervention, obtain equipment and recruit staff.

INITIATING ACTIVITIES

The development programmes of Médecins du Monde last 3 to 5 years on average. Alongside providing care and leading training, awareness-raising or advocacy activities, results are monitored and fundraising continues.

END OF THE PROGRAMME

At the end of a programme, depending on the situation, Médecins du Monde rolls out the activities in other regions or transfers them to health authorities and local partners. A capitalisation study enables us to learn from the programmes and to further improve the efficacy of our actions.

WE ARE HERE
AND ABROAD

Asia

Living and working conditions, epidemics and social change in Asia are causing major public health issues. Political and religious persecution, wars and poverty are also leading to broader migration movements across the Asian continent.

America

Social exclusion, violence, political turmoil and poverty in Latin America are driving populations to set out, leaving them with no other choice than fleeing their country. Central and South America are facing emergencies and humanitarian crises, causing great health needs; medical infrastructure and medical staff are sometimes lacking while damage caused by violence remains a major barrier to access to care for the most vulnerable.

Middle East

In the Middle East, several countries such as Iraq, Syria or Yemen are in the grip of civil war. Many populations are forced to seek refuge in the neighbouring regions to escape from violence and insecurity.

Europe

The violence of armed conflicts and the instability it fuels in a number of African countries contribute to seriously destabilise healthcare systems that are already fragile and relatively inaccessible.
