DOCTOR

We welcome doctors wishing to do humanitarian work at different stages of their training. One possibility is to do an internship with MdM in France. Once you are qualified, you could join us as a paid employee or volunteer on our programmes in France and abroad.

YOUR TASKS AS A DOCTOR WORKING WITH A HUMANITARIAN ORGANISATION

  • If you work as a humanitarian doctor on one of our international programmes, the role involves delivering training, supervision and health education activities. Less frequently, you will provide primary or emergency healthcare consultations. Positions for doctors on our programmes outside France are usually salaried posts in the country concerned, for which recruitment is carried out locally.
  • If you work in France, you will provide medical consultations and undertake prevention work. Most of the doctors working on our programmes in France are volunteers.

REQUIREMENTS

  • You will be representing Médecins du Monde so you should be seen to uphold our values and put them into practice.
  • If you work outside France, we ask that you have a good command of English or Spanish.
  • You will be required to live and work in multicultural environments and in security contexts that may sometimes be difficult or stressful, so you will need to have the capacity to adapt.
  • You will be in charge of a medical team and will need excellent training, leadership and management skills, as well as being a great team player.
  • To manage all these different dimensions simultaneously, a dynamic attitude, a rigorous approach and good organisational skills will be of great value.

GOOD TO KNOW

In order to work on our programmes in France, a licence to practise in the country and registration with the medical association are required by law. Whether you are a generalist or a specialist, we need all types of doctors to respond to the needs of the communities with which we work. However, some specialisms may be particularly useful, such as public health, tropical medicine and mental health.

YOUR FUTURE PROSPECTS AT MDM

Because we are committed to long-term collaboration with our partners and believe that staff who have had practical experience on the ground are an asset for any organisation, we offer doctors who work with us the opportunity to progress to more senior roles, such as medical coordinator or health advisor.
