LOGISTICS COORDINATOR

© Lachene Abib

No specific training is required to become a logistics coordinator, but a background in logistics for humanitarian projects is an advantage. Our logistics coordinators have practical experience of logistics on the ground in France or abroad.

YOUR TASKS

  • Whether you work on one of our programmes abroad or in France, the role of logistics coordinator is to supervise and implement all aspects of the programme that relate to logistics and safety requirements. You will be responsible for managing and training the team, project management, planning and negotiation.

REQUIREMENTS

  • You will be representing Médecins du Monde so you should be seen to uphold our values and put them into practice.
  • If you work outside France, we ask that you have a good command of English or Spanish.
  • You will be living and working in multicultural environments and in security contexts that may sometimes be difficult or stressful, so you will need to have the capacity to adapt.
  • Excellent needs analysis skills and the ability to assess security contexts will be a valuable asset in the coordination of often complex projects.
  • You will be responsible for a team which might be quite large, so you will need good training, leadership and management skills, as well as being a great team player. You will have to ensure that the rules for safety and security you draw up are respected.
  • You will be responsible for logistics procedures and procurement for the organisation so you will need to be familiar with the processes involved.
  • To manage all these different dimensions simultaneously, a rigorous approach and good organisational skills will be a valuable asset.
  • You should be comfortable communicating verbally and in writing and have the ability to employ diplomacy when required.

GOOD TO KNOW

Extensive experience of logistics for humanitarian projects is essential and specialist knowledge of construction, rehabilitation or sanitation could be beneficial.

YOUR FUTURE PROSPECTS AT MDM

Because we are committed to long-term collaboration with our partners and believe that staff who have had practical experience on the ground are an asset for any organisation, we offer our logistics coordinators the opportunity to progress to more senior roles, such as supply manager / procurement manager or logistics advisor at our headquarters in France, site coordinator and then general coordinator or head of department.
