CONTEXT
MdM France has operated in Afghanistan from 1982 to 2012, implementing projects in 6 different provinces across the country. Following Taliban takeover of power in August 2021, MdM has decided to reopen its mission in the country. MdM was registered again early 2022 and launched its first activities in Kabul and Wardak. We are currently preparing to open a new base in Farah province after securing an ECHO funding for a primary healthcare intervention in hard-to-reach areas focusing on reproductive health and nutrition.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the general coordinator, you will:
- Setup and manage a full fledge office + guest house in Farah province
- Represent MdM in the area towards all stakeholders
- Launch and lead the implementation of an ECHO project to be deployed in 3 districts
- Hire and supervise a team of around 34 national staffs
- Ensure the deployment and compliance with MdM frameworks, policies and procedures
- Ensure team, assets and programs security and safety
- Ensure representation of MdM, develop and lead advocacy work and partnerships.
Team under your direct supervision: 3 to 6
Your conditions of employment
- Starting date: 1st of June 2025
- 6-month contract (renewable)
- Gross monthly salary: €3,627
- Position based in Farah, Afghanistan (single departure) with regular field visits
- Premium equal to one month salary paid in two instalments – minimum of 6 months seniority required
- Expatriation bonus (10% gross salary per month)
- Transportation cost, vaccines and visas covered
- Collective housing in guesthouse
- R&R every 3 months including flight ticket (capped) and per diem
- 22.5 recovery days per year
- 5 weeks of paid leaves per year
- Health insurance (50% covered by MdM and 50% by the employee)
- Insurance (repatriation…)

Your profile
- University degree in line with position
- Significant experience in the humanitarian sector (minimum 5 years)
- Previous experience as a field coordinator desired
- Proven managerial experience within complex/insecure environments
- Experience in representation with humanitarian actors, authorities and donors (UN, NGOs, frameworks, standards, etc.)
- Experience in challenging negotiations
- Substantial experience in safety, security and access strategies management
- Good understanding of support services tools and guidelines
- Experience in managing medical program in an asset
- Previous experience in Afghanistan is an asset
- Previous experience with MdM is an asset
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills
- Mapping skills with Google Earth or ArcGIS
- Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory (C1 minimum)
- Knowledge of Dari or Pashto is an asset
- Knowledge of French is an asset
