This section applies only to candidates wishing to participate in international assignments abroad.
To apply, a cover letter (specify length of notice, how long you are available and your level of foreign languages) and a CV are essential .Without these two items we cannot process your request.
For information, all volunteers are required to be able to speak at least one of the three following languages: English, Spanish or Portuguese and to have at least two years’ professional experience (except for doctors and midwives). General practitioners must either have doctorates or a replacement permit*. Specialist doctors must have a certificate showing they have done hospital training for 4 semesters. (Training in public health, tropical medicine or infectious diseases would be an advantage). The coordinator posts require previous experience of a humanitarian assignment abroad. Moreover, it is necessary to be available between 5 and 6 consecutive months (except surgeons, anaesthetists and emergency doctors who must be available for a minimum of 6 weeks).
Finally, we have made it a rule at “Medecins du Monde” to no longer send interns on our assignments abroad. It is only possible to do internships at our headquarters or in our different delegations / offices in France and abroad. To apply, please refer to the section « Internships ».
If you are able to come to Paris, you are invited to participate in one of our information meetings that take place on the first Thursday of every month from 3 pm to 5 pm, at our headquarters (62 rue Marcadet - 75018 Paris – Tube station: Marcadet Poissonniers).
* “permis de remplacement”. The permit is a simple attestation proving that the person satisfies the legal requirements for replacing a doctor. It is issued by the “Conseil Départemental de l’Ordre” (Medical Association Council of the Department (French administrative division)).
