Despite a progressive transition towards a market economy, the country’s economy remains weak. Thirty-five per cent of the population lives below the poverty line with an average monthly salary of 83US$ and a third of the working age population has already left the country. Driven to emigrate, many people become targets for human traffickers. Women, the first to be affected by this network of sexual exploitation, suffer serious physical and psychological consequences.

Preventing human trafficking and caring for victims - Balti municipality and Floresti, Falesti, Glodeni, Rascani and Sangerei regions

Activities :

While supporting the co-ordination of organisations working on this issue, the MdM programme aims to:

• contributing to the setting up and facilitation of a network for the identification of victims of human trafficking;
• supporting the creation of a comprehensive care network for victims of trafficking.

Outlook :

• Continue outreach actitivities with vulnerable groups;
• Consolidate the implementation of a working consortium to support local and international NGOs in their lobbying relating to human trafficking.
