Even though India is recognised as an economic power, a large part of its population continues to be excluded from the development process. In the shantytowns of Jaipur, one in 12 children still dies before the age of five. Since 2007, the Midi-Pyrénées delegation has been involved with the most disadvantaged groups in order to improve their access to healthcare, paying particular attention to mother and child health.

Aalia “It’s the first time that we have been given the chance to improve things in the shantytown. So I volunteered to be trained as a community health worker. Now I can convince other women to take care of their health and that of their family. I’ve seen too many women cry over the loss of a child and I don’t want that to happen again.” |
